Di lies and weasel words

In a print only Sydney Kruddy Herald 8 August 2009 on page 2.
Apology to Di Yerbury AO
From February 8, 2007, the Herald published a number of articles in print and online, including news blog concerning Professor Di Yerbury who had served as Vice Chancellor of Macquarie University for more than 19 years to February 2006.
Professor Yerbury has alleged that the articles depicted her as dishonesty commingling her private art collection with the University’s own art collection and failing honestly to account for her use of the University’s credit card.
The Herald at no time intended to convey any such allegations against Professor Yerbury
If readers understood the articles as in any way reflecting upon her honesty and probity, the Herald withdraws those allegations and apologies for the hurt to professor Yerbury and any damage to her reputation.

please tell me more about this artcile.... I am fascinated, what does this mean, whats the story behind it, who is this person (what a wierd name), and, the passage doesnt seem to make sense to me, noting the timeframe seems illogical (9 years between 2007-2008??). Was this a hack of smh websoite? No record of it as being false/hacked. But, it is no longer up there...

Leon, the article was only printed in the newspaper. Not on the internet. My typing may have missed a few commas. The newspaper was hoping that people would not notice the embarrassing apology. The newspaper defamed the person. We do not know how much was paid in settling the case.

well, the newspaper has a website, smh.com.au ....i'm pretty sure that the website and newspaper reflect similar content. I read it on the internet. I thought maybe it was a hack of the smh.com.au website as it was on for very short time (1hr maybe?) then gone ....

As far as I know, it was never on the Internet.

wow you have politician-like responses. i dont read the smh newspaper print version - only on the internet; so i am pretty sure (between 100-113% sure) I read the article on the internet. It was in fact at the time of print at the front, in ALL CAPS (which is why i thought maybe it was a hack). The article is now hidden here:
