An incident in early December - a long, hard fight

Suburb in complete lockdown
December 18, 2005 - 7:30PM - The Sydney suburb of Brighton-le-Sands has been locked down to all but residents after a carload of men were found carrying a 25-litre drum of petrol, police scanners and portable radios.
Premier Morris Iemma "We have to remain vigilant from here on in. This is not going to be a one-day fight. We're in for a long, hard fight. The streets are going to be safe for all peace-loving citizens."

Young Lebanese men caught between cultures December 18, 2005 - The cause of last week's riot is too complex to be papered over, writes Russell Skelton. A social worker said the group takes its inspiration from US rap culture, carry weapons and is quick to resort to violence. "Bashing up a lifeguard on a beach gives them a sense of fighting back. They are caught between two cultures, prevented from being Australian. Unable to read and write Arabic, they are constantly searching for ways to assert their identity through conflict."

If we play by some twisted rules that control one side and not the other then there will be little wonder why the game is lost.
